Norden Bombsight
It was used during the World War II by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and the United States Navy, and the United States Air Force in the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. And it was designed Carl Norden, a Dutch engineer educated in Switzerland who emigrated to the U.S. in 1904. But then in a year 1911, Norden joined Sperry Gyroscope to work on ship gyrostabilizers and then moved to work directly for the US Navy as a consultant.
It was initially developed by the Navy in order to provide a system capable of bombing ships from outside the range of their defensive guns and the Army took up the design for similar missions.
The function of these device is to improving the accuracy of bombing in Germany. It was the famous device during the World War. It made up of two principal parts; the sight head and the stabilizer which the sight head mounts on top of. The Stabilizer is also part of the autopilot and has a gyro that senses deviation about the yaw, or vertical axis of the airplane. The stabilizer is an essential part of the autopilot and will function without the sight head installed.
